David Ucheagu, a junior student of Command Day Secondary School, emerged winner in the maiden edition of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, (Enugu Chapter) Inter Secondary School Table Tennis Championship, today, at the Enugu State Sports Council.
The 3-day championship which had seven schools such as Union Boys High School (Awkwunanu), Army Day Secondary School (Gariki), Baptist High School, Sacred Heart College (Uwani), Command Day Secondary School (82 division), College of Immaculate Conception (CIC) (Uwani) and Gabselina Schools (Independence Layout), put up amazing and exciting tennis skills.
At the end, it was 12 year old, David who came out tops, exhibiting lots of composure and determination throughout the championship, as he outclassed his opponent (Udenwagu Chdubem of Sacred Heart) in a convincing manner of three straight sets of (11-5), (11-4), (11-6).
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the event, the Sponsor, Evangelist JohnGold Chikezie, is indeed satisfied with the level of participation, while pledging continually support for the program.
Also Speaking, Chairman of the Planning and Organizing Committee, Chibuzor Nwoye, hinted that despite some schools declining, the championship lived up to expectations.
In his reaction, the winner, David expressed delight in his overall performance, during the competition, saying that he worked hard for the feat
On his part, Games Teacher of Command Day Secondary School, Joseph Ndukaku Udensi, who was overwhelmed with joy, spoke eloquently about his player, adding that he is a prospect for the future.
In the third place, it was a one sided affair as Union Boys (High School Awkwunanu) lost three straights of (5-11), (4-11) and (8-11).
Meanwhile, Cash Prize, medals and Certificates were awarded to the outstanding schools, just as certificates of participation were presented to other schools.
