The 2022 edition of the New Haven Football League tagged “soccer extravaganza” for players and teams residing within New Haven axis kicked off over the weekend, at the New Haven Primary School, Upper Chime.
The tournament which is scheduled to hold from 13th November to 11th December, will witness 8 teams in two groups, competing for the major prize, as the competition is being sponsored by private individuals, football enthusiasts and an eatry outfit.

In an exclusive chat with sportszone.com.ng correspondent, the Special Adviser on Information to the Enugu State government, Barrister Steve Oruro commended the organisers for putting up such a competition, stating that the initiative will help refocus the young minds towards channelling their energy towards positivity.

Also speaking, Former Rangers International Captain, Okey Odita hinted that the competition will help to galvanise football fraternity within the axis, admonishing young players to be committed, dedicated and discipline to get to the top.

Meanwhile the Local Organising Committee, has stated that this year’s competition which enters its11th edition, will not only unearth and nurture talents but will follow up on their progress, adding that the winner of the competition would go home with exceptional gift items, trophy and large sum of money.

However, the ceremonial game that heralded the start of this year’s edition between New Haven All Stars Vs Enugu Professionals ended 0-0 while Conrad FC 0-0 Red Bull today, and on Wednesday it will be the turn of Gwandagwa FC Vs R-Liners FC .

Similarly, dignitaries, football legends of the past and the new generation players who were present to catch a glimpse of the competition include: former green eagles captain, Chairman Christian Chukwu, Ifeanyi Onyedika, Edward Inyangbe, Chigozie Agbim, Michael Uchegbo, Ejike Uzoenyi among others.
