ENUGU SWAN CONGRATULATES NEWLY INAUGURATED ENUGU STATE GOVERNOR.

The Sports Writers of Nigeria, SWAN, Enugu State Chapter has congratulated the newly inaugurated Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah and his Deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai on their swearing-in ceremony into office, adding that the transition from one democratic administration to another was a clear indication of the people’s mandate.

 

In a letter dated and signed yesterday by the Chairman of the State Association, Comrade Gideon Iwueke, the association commended the new administration on the appointment of a new State Secretary General, SSG, appealing to the Governor to reciprocate such gesture in sports.

 

The journalists enjoined the State Government to endeavor to avoid the mistakes of the past regimes by giving the sector the desired attention, emphasizing that sports remains a veritable tool and platform for unification, checking youth restiveness as well as an avenue to earn a living.

 

On the aspect of sports development and promotion, the body decried over the poor state of sports due to the appointment of a novice or one with limited knowledge in the Ministry for Youth and Sports in the past, stressing on the significance of grass root and school sports program for the future.

 

The group also appealed for the completion of the abandoned Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium rehabilitation and remodeling project, resuscitation of the Sports Council along Independence Layout and Games village in Awgu which has been lying dormant for many years.

 

They assured of their readiness and willingness in making sports the hub of the South East region especially from the local government level, as well as promoting government policies and programs.
