As the clock countdown to the epic final of the 2023 NFF/Tingo Federation Cup between Rangers International of Enugu against Bendel Insurance (Edo), report making the round suggests that fans and supports from parts of the country and the globe may not have the opportunity to see the live telecast of the game, due to the fact that the country’s football body have concluded plans not to beam the match live despite the massive investment by the competition sponsor.
A top football administrator who spoke exclusively under the condition of anonymity today, revealed this with less than 48 hours to the all important game scheduled for the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
According to him, denying domestic football enthusiasts and followers of the oldest and most glamorous club competition in the country, the opportunity to watch the game live on television especially for those who would not be at the venue can be counter-productive to some reasonable extent especially when trying to attract investors and also the possibility of influencing or manipulating the outcome of the game.
He lamented that the football body is not utilizing the opportunity to sell the competition to the world especially now that the cooperate world are beginning to acquaint themselves with domestic football.
The source further stated that such kind of decision or stand will never in any way do the country’s football any good, rather it will continue to dwindle the fortunes of local football and its players several years behinde.
It would be recalled that final game of this year’s competition which was scheduled for the 15th June, 2023 was postponed to Wednesday, 21st June, 2023 due to some internal challenges the organisers are experiencing.
