President of the South East Basketball Association, SEBA, Ugo Udezue has stated that the primary target of organising the basketball invitational championship within the region was to adopt and develop a template to project competition among players.
He made this disclosure recently after the just concluded SouthEast Basketball Invitational Championship tagged “the oriental classics ” at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
According to him, the SouthEast has produced talents that have done well and currently setting records in major championships within and outside the country, noting that organization, planning, facilities and funding remains major constraints.
On his part, Chairman of the Enugu State Basketball Association, ESBA, Mayor Chinedu Nnam showered encomium on SEBA, the various sponsors and players in making the first phase of the competition a success, calling on the state government, cooperate bodies and well-meaning individuals to invest in the slam-and-dunk game.
Meanwhile, Team Anambra known as Anambra Chief and Hearland Queens of Imo emerged winners in the male and women categories of the second edition of SouthEast Basketball Association, SEBA, Championship.
The 3-day championship which is
the first of the 5 series expected to go through the 5 Southeastern states, had about 20 officials, over 130 players from Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo States in the male and female categories.
To this end, the next destination of the Southeast basketball invitational championship would be in Anambra hopefully sometime next month.
