The Enugu State Government says aside from entertainment and recreation, sports play a dominant role in the development of any modern society, hinting that it promotes togetherness, competition, talent discovery and generates massive revenue for the economy.
This was made known by the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah during the maiden edition of the national council for sports, tagged “sports for national unity and socio-economic growth” at the old government lodge, Abakiliki Road, Enugu.
In his address, the governor is indeed satisfied that the state hosted the first edition of the event, while calling on the relevant authorities to improve on challenges that have affected the sector.
Also Speaking, the Special guest of honor, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, represented by Minister for Special Duties, Zamfanya Gisalo, highlighted the significance of investing on the athletes and facilities, while advocating for more collaboration from various corporate bodies.
Delivering his keynote speech, Minister for Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, expressed gratitude to the President for granting the Ministry autonomy, adding that there is a possibility of Enugu State hosting the National Sports Festival in future.
Cross Rivers has been nominated as the next host of the second edition of the event in 2025.
