THREE REGIONS TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP SERVE OFF IN ENUGU.

The 8th edition of the Under-15 and Under-21 three regions Tennis Championship, served off on Wednesday, where tennis players from South East, South South and South West regions, will be participating.

The 4-day tourney which is sponsored by a tennis enthusiast, Prince Victor Uwakwe, organized by the Enugu State Tennis Association, ESTA, in collaboration with the Enugu Sports Club Tennis Section.

Speaking to newsmen, Sponsor of the Tennis Championship, Prince Victor Uwakwe revealed that the essence of the championship was to expose and equip young players with the right mental attitude to become tennis greats and responsible individuals in future.

In his address, Chairman of the Enugu State Tennis Association, Professor Gab Agu Gab expressed gratitude to the sponsor of the tournament, stating that the association would produce players that would give a good representation in any major tournament.

Also Speaking, Captain of the Tennis Section, Enugu Sports Club, Chukwuma Eze is indeed thankful to the sponsor, describing the competition as a breeding ground to unearth and harness young talented tennis players.

On his part, Coach of the Rivers State Tennis Team, Samuel Omayoma, hinted that as defending champions of the last edition, they are expecting a tough challenge from every state due to the expansion of the competition, but expressed optimism that his players will definitely give a good account of themselves.

Meanwhile, a total of 79 players will be competing in this year’s edition, where the Under-21 for both boys and girls categories (32 and 8), just as the Under-15 have 31 and 8 respectively.

Recall that John Nubari from Rivers and Ezeh Chidinma from Anambra States won the Under-21 male and female category during the last edition, while Chimaobi Isaac and Ayetuoma Fego from Imo and Rivers States won the Under-15 male and female category respectively.
