Eucharia Madu, a mother of four, who hails from Imo State, has expressed deep concerns over the dwindling fortunevs and deplorable conditions badminton has experienced n the region, whole stressing the importance of the sport in any modern society.
Madu, who is also a nursing mother and a Police Inspector serving at the Ebonyi State Command, further hinted that due her active involvement and participation in the sport during her early years, she has won a couple titles.
She made the statement during the ongoing Southeast Badminton Championship, at the Indoor Multipurpose Gynassium Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, today.
Despite losing the first set to a young and enterprising opponent, Chioma Umeh (Anambra ) (19-21) the Policewoman had to work extra harder to emerge victorious by defeating her (20-22, 19-21).
Speaking after the gruelling contest, the inspector who is representing Ebonyi State, hinted that she had to restrategize after observing that she was making unforced errors thereby giving her opponent the edge over her.
According to her, the pep talk with her coach, her composure and the expectations from her family, motivated her to go the extra mile, reassuring that she will continue to work on her deficiencies ahead of subsequent championships.
In his words, Ebonyi State Coach, Oyoh Oliver, praised the player’s determination in coming back strongly in the game, admitting that she has the potentials to win more titles.
Meanwhile, results of some matches of Match Day 2, saw some exciting.contest in the female category, as Onyedika Nkem (Enugu) lost in two straight sets of (17-21, 12-21)to Okoro Chinyere (Imo), Doyin Olusanya (Enugu) also lost to Ugochi Oti (Ebonyi) (8-22, 18-21), Chinedu (Anam) lost to Winny Nkem (Ebonyi) (17-21, 15-21), experience Queen Chibuzor proved too good to handle, as dominated her opponent, Ugoch Oti (Ebonyi) in a one sided affair of (15-22, 10-21).
The female doubles also took center stage during the afternoon, as Udeh Chioma and Winny (Ebonyi) lost to Doyin Olusanya and Nkem Onyebuchi (Enugu) (11-21, 21-9, 19-21), Uju Joy and Adaure (Enugu) defeated Chioma Umeh and Blessing Amarachi (Anambra) (21-14, 21-14).
