Nsukka Education Zone has began on a brighter note on the day one of the third edition of the Governor Peter Ndubisi MBAH Secondary School Sports competition with two hold and five silver medals.

The championship which began at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium yesterday witnessed a large turnout as early as 8 am, as the participating zones alongside their students jostle for the ultimate prize in the various events.

Emmanuel Omeje and Julian Diovu, recorded gold in the high and long jump event with a leap of 5:99 and 1!76 meters in the boys and girls category respectively, while Caleb Diogu (high jump), Precious Nwigwe (girls 100 meters) as well as Julian Diovu (long jump).

Awgu Zone, another enterprising side, also proved that they are not in championship to make up numbers, as they also secured two hold medals through Precious Nwaoha (girl’s high jump) and Ngozika Ugwu (girl’s 100 meters in 12:43 seconds).

Results from the male football event that was concluded yesterday showed that Nsukka and Enugu Zones secured passage to next round of championship after edging pass their opponents (Obolo and  Awgu) on penalties 8-7 and 3-1 after regulation time, just as Udenu secured a slim victory with Agbani defeating Udi 1-0.

The female event was not short of excitement and jubilation as Enugu controlled and dominated their opponent (Udi) from beginning to end with a resounding 3-0 victory, with the  semifinals (Awgu vs Obolo) and (Enugu vs Nsukka) scheduled tomorrow from 9 am.

Also scheduled tomorrow Is the boy’s semi -finals matches between Obollo vs Awgu Zone,  whole Udi trade tackle for a final slot against Agbani Zone..

Energy Sports Correspondent, Ugochukwu Okeiyi further noted that a total of six education Zones comprising of Awgu, Agbani, Enugu, Nsukka, Obollo and Udi,  are taking part in this year’s edition.
