Taekwondo is one of the systematic and scientific korean traditional martial arts, that is characterized by punching and kicking which lay emphasis on exercise, competition, perseverance, self defence and leadership skills, and so the Chairman of the Enugu State Taekwondo Association and Chief Supritendent of Police, Ebere Amarizu is confident that the sport can produce future champions.
The Enugu State Taekwondo Association (ESTA) in collaboration with the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), ASTRIC and Odera Ugo Foundation would be hosting the U-15 boys and girls taekwondo exhibittion and poomsae challenge tagged “OUR CHILDREN MUST THRIVE” at the indoor sports hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on 30th July 2022.

He made this disclosure today shortly after the meeting with the officials of ministry of youth and sports, education, senior officers of POCACOV, association members at the POCACOV office, Police force headquarters, Government Residential Area (GRA).
Speaking in an exclusive interview with power sports correspondent, Ugo Okeiyi, he explained that the competition is an avenue to reorient the young people, activate the consciousness in parents, guardians and caregivers, reiterating that they will also enlighten and sentize the general public on the significance and benefits of engaging in sports.

The police chief who is also a sports administrator further hinted concerning the participants and its different categories, promising that the association would extend its invitation to schools in the hinterland to be part of subsequent editions of the competition.
In his words, Dennis Ani, former National and African middle weight champion and currently a coach assured that they will continue to make positive impact on the children particularly in the academics, mental and domestic affairs, soliciting for more partnership so as to prepare the young people for the everyday challenge.

Meanwhile, research have proven that taekwondo is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind, and it’s also significant and foster strength of the mind through mental armament.
