As states and its contingents begins to arrive the Asaba, Delta State the host of the 21st edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF), Team Enugu are confident that the contingents will win more medals and give a good representation at the competition.
The state contingent comprises of 42 athletes, 9 Coaches, 1 camp commandant, 2 medical personnel and 12 officials would be flying the state’s flag at the 12-day tournament.
Meanwhile, Team Enugu will be participating in nine sporting events which include Athletics, Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, Table Tennis, Weightlifting, Para powerlifting, Cycling and Para Athletics.
In his farewell message today at the Sports Council, Independence Layout, the Commissioner Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Manfred Nzekwe, admonishes the contingents to be good and worthy ambassadors, tasking the athletes to do the state proud at the biannual games.
On her part, Commonwealth and Olympic medalist, Victoria Nneji (MON) who would be competing in the para powerlifting event, stated that the athletes are in top shape and have been preparing for a while, noting that the competition would be very tough.
Reflecting on sports development in the state, Ogbodo Israel, a boxer in 57kg category lamented over the level of negligence and set backs on part of state government in the aspect of sports, stating the chairman of the association and private individuals have been supportive.
It would be recall that Team Enugu were placed 28th on the overall medals table at the 2018 edition in Abuja with 1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze.
