Director Organizing, Enugu State Ministry for Youth and Sports, Mr. Boniface Onovo has expressed confidence in the state government’s commitment towards the development of sports, adding that the ministry is doing everything within its powers to reposition the sector in the state.
He made this disclosure today at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium during Team Enugu’s departure for the 2023 Teqball Championship taking place in Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.
According to him, the present administration has reassured that it will not relent in throwing its weight behind the state contingents to any major competitions.
The Director admitted that despite the sport being relatively new in this part of the region, the Ministry is making frantic effort in engaging some adhoc coaches and personnels that can be developed over time, thereby expanding the growth of the game especially from the hinterland.
Responding to the possibilities that the incoming administration will give sports the desired attention, Mr. Onovo stated that the expectation of the sporting sector is quite high, adding that he can only be assessed by his policies and programs.
Meanwhile, this year’s edition which will witness 16 states participating in five categories namely men’s singles,women’s singles, men and women’s double and mixed double will square-off for the $3,000 prize money at stake.
