AKWA UNITED EDGE PASS WIKKI TOURIST IN ROUND OF 64 OF AIETO/FEDERATION CUP.

Akwa United Football Club of Uyo has qualified for the round of 32 of the 2023 Aieto/Federation Cup by defeating Wikki Tourist FC of Bauchi 1-0 at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus Stadium.

With the quality of Ebetomame Oghenetega, Salomon Chigoziem and Taiye Muritala making the match day squad for the Uyo base team, it shows that the technical crew are not complacent and want to avoid the mistake of last edition.
For Wikki Tourist, they have been a struggling side, lost their last four games, managed a home draw and currently languishing in the relegation zone of the ongoing abridged version of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League.
The first 45 minutes witnessed excellent and exciting football artistry from the promise keeper’s, as the 2015 Federation Cup winner dominatied and orchestrated play from almost every department of the game.
Midfielder Liman Ahmadu who was the goal scoring hero for his side reacted swiftly from a corner kick inside the penalty area in the 27th minute, which left the goalkeeper of Wikki Tourist rooted to a spot.
On resumption of the second stanza, the introduction of former Go Round and Kano Pillars attacker, Samuel Stone and winger Bashir Aliyu for the Yankari Elephant, brought a lot of energy and spark up front as they search for an equaliser.
In his post analysis, Technical Adviser of Akwa United FC,  Ayodeji Ayeni commending the organisers of the league, hinting that this season have being very competitive and exciting.
On his part, Head Coach Wikki Tourist FC, Gibert Opana admitted that his side are not in a good position on the league table at moment but they will continue fight till the end.
