The Badminton Federation of Nigeria, has reaffirmed that it will continually priotizing its focus on promotion and development of the sport in the country, thereby providing the platform for athletes to thrive.and compete favourably with their counteparts from different parts of the globe.
The Federation who also acknowledged the country’s recent improvement and dominance in the continent, noted that such feat would not have been possible without a well planned and articulated collective procedures.
Present of the BFN,Francis Orbih, made the comment on the last day of competiron at the fourth edition of the Southeast Badminton Championship, at the Indoor Multipurpose Sports Gynassium Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, yesterday.
The badminton administrator who is also a legal luminary, expressed satisfaction over quality of competition and performance, hinting that the annual competition lived up to expectations,
Also Speaking, Southeast representative on the board of the BFN, Mrs. Obiageli Edoga Solaja, emphasized that some of talents discovered would definitely be developed and nurtured, just as she appreciated the sponsor, Bet9ja Foundation, for supporting and believing in the project.
Mrs. Solaja, an ex international and a 1996 Atlanta Olympian, called on corporate bodies,well meaning individuals and the relevant stakeholders to rally around the sport through financial, moral or physical support.
On his part, Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, commended the organizers for doing an awesome job, hinting that the Ministry is working close with the Federation on the aspect of the technical requirements ahead of me forthcoming National Sports Festival in the State.
Reflecting on development and expansion of the game, Chairman Enugu State Badminton Association, Honorable Kester Agu revealed that the hard work and commitment of the Board are gradually paying off, as some of the young talents players discovered from their recently concluded project will represent the state in any major tournament
In his words, Head of Technical at the event and Enugu State Badminton Coach, Ifejika Gods will, noted that despite championship witnessing some established and experienced players, his players gave a good account of themselves.
The 3-day championship which brought over 40 players an 5 coaches from the Southeastern states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo jostle for ranking positions as well as the ultimate prize in the singles (male and female) doubles (male and female) mixed doubles and veteran categories.
