Former domestic champions, Rangers International FC (Enugu) played out a goalless draw against newly promoted, Kun Khalifa FC (Owerri) in Match day one of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, yesterday.

The Owerri based side who gained promotion from the Nigeria National League, NNL, to the elite division last season, retained the core of the team, as they showed more prospects and coordination in the encounter.

Enugu Rangers, on the other hand, did not put in a spirited performance, just as the team struggled with cohesion, lacking the sharpness to string passes together as well as the ability to capitalize on the defensive blunders made by the opposing team.

The first 45 minutes did not witness any anxious or dangerous moments, as both teams were cautious and tactical in their approach to the game.

Despite the tide swinging from end to end on resumption of the interval, the introduction of substitutes by the technical crew of both teams yielded no positive impact, with the players lacking the composure and cutting edge to find the back of the net.

Speaking during his post match reaction, Head Coach, Kun Khalifa FC, Obinna Uzoho, hinted that despite making their debut in the league, his team was not intimidated in any form by the home support but stressed that they will continually improve on the lapses observed.

On his part, Technical Adviser, Enugu Rangers, Fidelis Ilechukwu, admitted that the outcome of the game does not reflect their plan, noting that his team almost lost the game due to pressure.

Meanwhile, Enugu Rangers would be away in their next encounter to Warri Wolves FC, in Match day two fixture, while Kun Khalifa will welcome defending NPFL champion, Remo Stars, both games are scheduled for Sunday, 31st August, 2025.
