Enugu State Ministry for Youth and Sports Development has congratulated the newly elected Southeast representatives and Chairmen of the state Associations for their emergence onto the various Federation and board, while expressing optimism their tenures will bring a bout a positive dimension in sports development in the region.
The Ministry also appreciated the financial ,moral and physical backings they have played particularly at the grassroot level, describing their inputs as highly commendable and praiseworthy.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development’, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu made this comment yesterday during the meeting with Southeast Zonal reps and Association Chairmen at his Office, at the State Secretariat, GRA, Enugu.
According to him, the aim of the meeting was to emphasize the significance of their positions especially to the state and region, reaffirming that their new status will attract more hosting rights, seminars and programs for Coaches as well as getting sports equipment.
On issue of the athletes’s representation and participation, the sports administrator urged the newly elected Southeast rep and Association Chairmen o constantly interact with the athletes,.stating that such stance wil register a strong feeling in them , just as it will enhance their performances at major championships
The Commissioner further hinted that as the state is getting prepared for the forthcoming National Sports Festival next year, the Ministry will not relent in ensuring that all the necessary and logistics support are put in place for a hitch-free championship.
Also Speaking, the Director, Coaching in the Ministry, Ephraim Ochonma thanked them for their different grassroot oriented impacts, noting their presence on the Federation and board, will return sports back to it’s glory days.
In their response,s the Southeast rep and Association Chairmen solicited for the provision of more conducive training arenas, financial support, equipment and receuitment of new Coaches, just they informed the Ministry that the Associations have participated so many championships in the past
