The Chairman of Interim Management Committee, IMC, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye has explained that the committee is adopting a different approach in developing a framework to repostion the league in line with the stipulated mandate of the Nigeria Football Federation and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He made this statement at the weekend after final of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL-DOZY Super Cup preseason champiiionship in Lagos.

According to the Chairman, the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League will still kick off this year, stating that the committee are done with the club licensing and facilities inspection of the teams.

The former Chairman of the National Sports Commission hinted that the organisers wanted teams that participated and won trophy for the country at the continental level, reaffirming that the winner and other participating teams would be rewarded at the end of the season.

On his part, Chief Operating Officer of the IMC, Prince Davidson Owumi revealed that the committee is working round the clock to perfect the conditions in having a hitch-free, re-branded and vibrant 2022/23 NPFL season.

Responding to his team’s performance at the just concluded preseason tournament in Lagos, Technical Adviser, Shooting Stars Sports Club, Gbenga Ogunbote expressed satisfaction over his team’s victory, hinting that there is still room for improvement.

It would be recalled that 3SC of Ibadan emerged overall winner in the preseason tournament held in Lagos by defeating two-time Confederation of African Football, Enyimba International of Aba 3-2 in a pulsating final and also carted home the star prize of #1m.
