All is now set for the maiden edition of the Southeast Para Powerlifting Championship, tagged “discover, devlop and adjust”,scheduled to hold at the Indoor Multipurpose Gymnasium Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, between 23rd and 24th October, 2025.

The championship which will see the next generation of athletes, coaches and officials from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, jostle for the ultimate prize in various weight categories, just as the event promises to live up to expectations.

Speaking to newsmen today in Enugu, President of the Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation, NPPF, Chiemeka Charles Ezenwanne, explained that lthe primary objectives of hosting the tournament in the state was to unearth and nurture talents that can take world by storm as well as replace the aging once  at the International scene.

According to him, the region which is blessed with abundant talents, is hinged on the program as a way of empowering the athletes by creating the enabling atmosphere to fraternize and compete with their counterparts from different part of the zone.

The President who is also the sole sponsor of the championship expressed deep concerns over attitude and responses from the authorities concerning the sport, reiterating that such kind of reactions does not augur well for the growth and development of the game

On issue of state participation at the National level, the president further disclosed that at the moment states like Anambra and Ebonyi does not have any active para lifters, while noting that early preparations and planing are key element to success.

He called on the government, corporate bodies and well-meaning individuals to support the sport as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR), reaffirming that the program would continue to be a yearly affair.

The competition which set to commence tomorrow from 9 am, have started  witnessing the arrival of the participants, Coaches, Director of Sport and supporters.
