ODERA FOUNDATION PARTNERS POCACOV AND ASTRIC TO HOST SOUTHEAST U-15 TAEWONDO CHAMPIONSHIP

Combat sports is a competitive contact sports which was introduced in the Olympics since the 18th century, and the chief executive officer, Odera Ugo Foundation (OUF), Chief Ugochukwu Uchegbu has hinted about the forthcoming Southeast U-15 boys and girls taekwondo poomsae tournament, adding that there primary objectives is to raise future champions.

He made this declaration shortly after the meeting between the officials of the enugu state ministry of youth and sports, senior personnels of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), enugu state taekwondo association, held at the POCAVOV Office, Government Residential Area (GRA), enugu.

According to the philanthropist who revealed that his main focus is development of human capacity, impact positively in young people and improvement of humanity for a better and greater society, stating that sports speaks a universal language.

Responding on the agenda for the program, Chairman of the Enugu State Taekwondo Association. Chief Supritendent of Police (CSP), Ebere Amaraizu explained that the combat sport is beyond sporting excellence and activities rather a way of life and attitude, adding that the program will help reorient young people, activate consciousness of parents, guardians and caregivers to see themselves as coaches, mentors and role models.

The sports administrator further added that the competition will also help in exposing the young athletes to tenets of Olympism which involves the Olympic core values/education which will make them discover themselves in respect to the modern-day society.

Also speaking, Dennis Ani, former National and African middle weight champion and currently a coach expressed gratitude to the foundation for their immense support, soliciting for more partnership so as to prepare the young people for the everyday challenge.

In his words, Coach Franklin Ekwerike also appreciated the gathering and the passion of the sponsor and for his belief in the game, reacting that POCACOV and ASTRIC are playing a major role in the lives of the young athletes using the instrumentality of sports.

However, the competition which will be hosted by the enugu state taekwondo association in collaboration with POCACOV and ASTRIC, supervised by the enugu state ministry of youth and sports is scheduled to take place at indoor sports hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe later next month.
