The Southeast Zonal Coordinator, National Sports Commission, NSC, Benard Ezema, has described the level of sports development and expansion as highly commendable and worthy of emulation, stressing the need for improved sports Infrastructure and activities in the region.

The Southeast Zonal Coordinator, who further admitted that the region remains a hub to discover, nurture and mentor the next generation of superstars that can take the world by storm, reiterated the importance of placing the sector on the priority position.

Mr. Ezema made this disclosure during the 2026 edition of the Olympic Day Run Celebration, in commemoration of the founding of International Olympic Committee,on 23rd June, 1894, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, yesterday.

The Southeast Zonal Coordinator who called on other states to emulate what Abia State sports is doing, noted that such development will continually give the region the recognition and desired advantage.

To this end, sports in the region are currently experiencing a transitional phase defined by a decline in elite national success, but bolstered by a strong push for grassroots development and regional community tournaments.
