TEAM ENUGU DEPARTS FOR 2023 NYG.

As States and Officials begin to arrive in Asaba, the host city of the 7th edition of the 2023 National Youth Games in Delta State, Team Enugu is optimistic that its contingents will win medals and put up outstanding performances during the competition.

Addressing the contingent before their departure from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium yesterday, the Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ekweremadu represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Barrister, Chika Ezike, reassured the contingent that the state government is solidly behind them, urging them to be good ambassadors and bring honor to the state.

Also Speaking, Director of Organization in the game, Mr. Boniface Onovo, stated that there would be instant cash and incentives rewards for gold, silver and bronze winners by the Ministry in Asaba, adding that on their return, they would have the opportunity to meet the State Governor.

Reacting to the expectations from his team at the championship, Coach of the Enugu State Handball Team, Chukwuemeka Idoko, noted that despite not participating in any major competition over the years, he is confident that his team will live up to expectations, reiterating that they will win medals at the competition.

On her part, 13-year-old, Nmesoma Ekwerika, a Taekwondo athlete participating in the competition for the first time, believes that with prayer and motivation, they will win laurels for the state.

Meanwhile, Team Enugu departed with 59 athletes, 19 officials, 2 medical personnel and would be competing in 9 sporting events namely football, handball, athletics, taekwondo, judo, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting and para athletics.
