Team Enugu has begun this year’s edition of the National Para Games Festival ongoing at the MKO Abiola Stadium, in Abuja,  on an impressive note, recording 4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals in day one of hostilities at the competition.

Over 3000 athletes, coaches and officials from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory are being for honors across 15 disciplines in the 10-day competition, which  is organized by the National Sports Commission, NSC.

Bose Omobami, secured early gold in the in female Para canoeing category (K11 509m,  just as Lekan Abdullahi, Ganiyu Talat and  Emmanuel David followed suit emerging tops in the  Para table tennis wheel chair 1 to 5 table tennis Open and  Para table tennis 6 to 7 wheel chair respectively.

Also Kehinde Lawal, who got silver, lost narrowly to her opponent in  a keenly consested final of the Para Tennis (Open class female). as well as Salako Kehinde and Hohan Augustina (Para shooting rifle and doubles), Marian Popoola  (Para table tennis 8 standing class)  and S Kehinde lawal ( 6 to 7 class wheel chair table tennis).

Two additional bronze medals were also registered on the medals standing later in the day fin  Para shooting rifle 1 single and 6 to 7 wheel table tennis,  by Faid Abayomi.

Reacting to contingents performance, Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development , Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekwermadu who was full of commendation for the present administration, acknowledged that the results and performance is a true testament of objectivity and focus.

The Commissioner further hinted that for the first time after so many years, they are getting it right, while reiterating that athletes welfare and wellbeing  remains the Ministry’s priorities.

Meanwhile, t the camp of Team Enugu is bubbling with high spirit and vigour, as the athletes and coaches are determined to win more medals.
