Vice President of International Table Tennis Federation, ITTF, Wahidi Enitam-Oshodi has attributed the success of the just concluded World Table Tennis Championship in Durban, South Africa, as a result of sheer determination and persistency on the part of the African continent, reiterating that his passion remains reposition the game in Africa.

The Vice President who made this statement recently on a television programme, said despite the gap between African ping pongers and that of their European and Chinese counterparts is getting wider by the day, he is still determined to change the narratives.

According to him, the last time the continent hosted such a championship was over 80 years ago, thereby making players from the region not getting the deserved recognition, adding that South Africa got the nod as a result of the massive African support, infrastructure and the experience of hosting major sporting events in the past.

The Sports Administrator praised the Nigeria players that featured in the championship especially those making their debut at the World Stage, calling for more financial and moral support from relevant stakeholders and table tennis enthusiasts in the country

Reacting to expectation in the forthcoming Nigeria Open Championship later in the month, former Lagos State Sports Commissioner revealed that top table tennis players from Europe, Chinese, Koreans and some African Countries would be taking part in the competition, adding that organizers of the competition are expecting as massive turn out and support from the fans,

It would recalled that Wahid Enitan Oshodi was elected as an Executive member of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) at the Annual General Meeting, AGM, on, November 24, 2021 in Houston, Texas the United States, and also becoming the second Nigerian to be elected to the world body after Segun George.
