The role of role of sponsorship in any sporting activities cannot be over emphasised whereby it provides the platform for athletes to excel, and so the Regional Sales Manager, BetKing, Mr. Henry Madubugo has reiterated the organization continually backings for grassroot/developmental football in Enugu.
He made this declaration during the draws ceremony this weekend at the third edition of the Coal City Football League tagged “Boolu Ogbe”at the Rangers international Training Pitch, Liberty Estate, Independence Layout.
According to the manager who hinted that the company is indeed satisfied and thrilled to be the proud sponsor of this year’s league, lauding the teams that qualified for the competition.
Responding to the format that used for the team’s qualification, Coordinator, Coal city football league, Emeka Okwaraji revealed that the committee had to adopt the play-offs format so as to accommodate all the teams that were interested, concluding that the seeded teams were the quarterfinal list from the 2021 edition.
Also speaking, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Purple Crown Football Club (Enugu), Adewale Alao described the ceremony as up-to-standard as it met the expectations of all the teams, adding that the fans and lovers of football are in for a wonder time.
In his words, former Rangers international and Coach of GRA, Jude Agada noted that the target of the organiser was to engage the young players positively where they will channel their energies, stating that the tournament will continue to improve every year.
However, the competition which is supported by the Enugu State government will feature 17 teams from different parts of the state such as Gariki, Uwani, Emene, Nsukka, Oji River amongst others that would compete for the ultimate crown.
Meanwhile, the opening game of the competition would see Agbani Road squaring up against Emene at the University of Nigeria Stadium, Enugu Campus by 4p.m.
It would be recalled that, Emene FC won the maiden edition of the tournament and Umuchigbo outclassed Abakpa 3-0 in the final to lift the title in 2021.
