WEIGHTLIFTING FEDERATION PRESIDENT HINTS ON PROGRAMS FOR 2023.

President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF, Abdule Ibrahim has expressed gratitude to the Federation, Technical Committee, Coaches and Athletes for their support and sportsmanship during the Weightlifting Events at the National Sports Festival, adding that the competition lived up to expectations.

He made this disclosure at the Federation’s Secretariat Office in Abuja, at the weekend.

According to the President, he stated some of the Sports Festival and African Championship coincide with their programs but reaffirmed that Federation would be organising a National Championship which will serve as qualifiers for the Olympics early next year.

He further stated that the current administration is committed towards the development and growth of the sports in the country, noting that some of athletes were impressive during the events.

Also speaking, Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafar explains how the state has able to discover and produce talents that are execelling In various sporting events, hinting that for winning gold, silver and bronze medals the athletes are rewarded with the sum of #750,000 , #500,000 and #300,000 respectively.

On her part, silver medalist in the female 59kg category, Olarinoye Adijat hinted that immediately after her return from the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, she started preparations, adding she had to put in extra work as she improved her category.

However, Team Delta State emerged overall champion in weightlifting events of the 21st National Sports Festival with a total of 47 medals while Oyo and Bayelsa States claimed 2nd and 3rd positions with 15 and 16 medals, respectively.
