TEAM ABIA EMERGED WINNER IN 2025 CLIMM TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP.

Team Abia emerged overall winner in this year’s edition of the CLIMM Southeast Under-16 track and field championship tagged “restoring grassroot track and field” held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, yesterday, with a total of 27 medals consisting of 10 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze.

The tournament which had the Southeastern states that include Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo States and CLIMM club completed in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 meters events, high jump, javelin, discuss events, as well as the state, 4×100 and 4×400 meters invitational relays for both primary and secondary schools across the state.

Anambra State contingents led by the Secretary of the State Athletics Association and a former hurdler, Edith Onwugamba, who put up a brilliant and exceptional performance, finished second on the medals standing with a total of 23 medals made up of 7 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze medal, even as they promised to win the next edition of the completion.

Imo, Enugu States and CLIMM club are placed third, fourth and fifth respectively with 11 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze), 6 medals (2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze) and 5 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze).

Speaking in an exclusive interview, 15 year old 100 meters gold medalist in the male category, Uche Joshua (Enugu State) expressed profound gratitude God for the feat, while acknowledging the financial and moral support from his family and his coach.

Despite winning the gold in female category, Egbu Blessing , a Senor Secondary School 2 student of Wesley Comprehensive School (Abia State), cited injury challenges which she sustained sometime ago hampered her speed, articulation and finishing.

Reflecting on the organization of the championship, Enugu State Athletics Coach, Uche Eziokwu reaffirmed that the organizers are intentional about the development and growth of the sport particularly in the region, adding that this year’s edition lived up to expectations.

Hallmark of the event was the gala and dinner night, were exceptional athletes and winners in the various events for both male and female categories were presented with medals, awards and cash prizes.
