Enugu State Government has described the ‘Olympic day event as an avenue to celebrate sports, friendship, togetherness and active lifestyles, adding that the Olympics core value guide governance, inspire young people and structure the larger society.
The government further reiterated it’s commitment towards sports development, while citing grassroot and school sports, infrastructural investments and athletes welfare, as vital aspects of the sector.
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, represented by the Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekwermadu, who made the comment within the week, reaffirmed its determination to the development of sports in the state.
The Commissioner who highlighted the significance sports, noted that the youths remains the future champions, pride of the state and leaders of tomorrow.
Reflecting on the fast approaching National Sports Festival, NSF, scheduled to hold latter in the year, the sports administration expressed high optimism that the state has all it takes to delivery a world class event in November, stating that state contingents will put up a good showing when hostilities for the Festival commences.
Meanwhile, this year’s edition which will witness a 2 kilometer walk with Music, will commence from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and through major streets of the metropolis, by 10am, with veteran volleyball and cycling also featuring.
It would be recalled that the Olympic Day commemorates the founding of the International Olympic committee on 23rd June, 1894, and this year’s theme aims to inspire people around the world to make time for daily physical activity
