The Badmintoon Federation of Nigeria, BFN, has described the remarkable resurgence and unprecedented successes both at the local and international scene, as a result of its visionary and innovative leadership.
The Federation further hinted that through strategic planning, athlete development, programs and consistent engagements, the board has elevated the country’s standing as force to be reckoned in African badminton, thereby inspiring a new generation of players.
President of BFN, Francis Obih made the statement recently on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the Southeast Badmintoon Championship taking place at the Indoor Sports Multipurpose Gynassium Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
According to him, the board has been defined by excellence, strategic development and empowerment of athletes across both conventional and para badminton categories.
Also Speaking, Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development in Enugu State, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, reaffirmed the present administration’s dedication to grassroot and school sports, nurturing young talents and investing in modern infrastructure.
On his part, Southeast Zonal Coordinator, National Sports Commission, Benard Ezema, expressed gratitude to the organizers of the competition, while expressing optimism that such kind of event will produce the next generation of players that will represent the zone in any major competition.
The 3-day competition which is organized by the Southeast Badmintoon Outreach, in conjunction with the Badminton Federation of Nigeria and the Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development’, is sponsored by Bet9ja Foundation.
Meanwhile today event witnessed some exciting and scintillating display, just as the players continue to jostle for the ultimate prize.
David Chibuike defeated Tochukwu Egwu in two straight sets of (21-9)(21-6), Divine Nweke (Ebonyi) also defeated Promise Kanu (21-9)(21-11), Bright Ozoani(Enugu) put up amazing performance, just as came up tops against Nnamdi Egele (21-15)(21-17), Amadi (Ebonyi) could not withstand the firepower of Ojo Babalola (Anambra), as he succumb to two straight sets of 21-16, 21-12, Agu Nzube (Anambra) proved too strong to handle, just as dispatched his opponent, Eya Joshua (Enugu) (21-14, 21-15), Onyedika Okolie (Imo) defeated Jacob Wisdom (Abia) (21-19, 18-21, 24-22)
The afternoon session also saw exceptional contest as Philip Anyiobi (Ebonyi) lost to Ydechukwu Nmesoma (9+21, 5-21), George Chukwunenye (Anambra) edge pass Paul Chiagoziem (Abia) (21-8, 21-3), Patrick Nweke (Enugu) was victorious against Echeve Chinedu (Imo) (21-16, 21-12), Chikamso (Enugu) defeated Divine Nweke (21-17, 21-15). Jeremiah Nnanna (Abia) defeated Nzube Agu (21-15, 21-18), Patrick Nweke (Enugu) lost to Uwen Chidi (15-21, 11-21). Ydechukwu Nmesoma(Enugu) also lost to George Chukwunenye (Anambra) (18-21, 22-20, 21-14).
