Young and exciting Badminton players, Eya Sochima and Ezechukwu Chiwetalu has expressed determination in continually improve and upgrade in their skills and the overall performance at any major championships, describing their pattern of paly as competitive.
Both players who representing Team Enugu in the Doubles Event, also attributed their overall performances at the recently concluded championship in Umuahia, sreiteirating that the result of hard work, dedication and discipline, cannot be over emphasized
Speaking shortly after their quarterfinal loss to Jovita Anikwe and Chidi Owen (Anambra) at the day two of the ongoing fourth edition of the Southeast Badminton Championship, at Indoor Multipurpose Sports Gynassium Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe, Stadium, yesterday.
According to Sochima, they understood that the encounter was going to be thrilling and tough going by the quality and experienced of the opposition, but however noted that such competition can produce future players.
On his part, Chiwetalu who praised the organizers of the tournament hinted that they gave their all on the court, adding that the outcome of game will not deter or bother them but will spur them to go the extra mile in future engagements.
In a similar development, day 2 of the championship indeed lived up to expectations just as the men’s and women’s doubles as well as mixed doubles took center stage.
Onyedika Okolie and Egele Nnamdi (Imo)
lost two straight set of (10-21, 13-21) to
Bright Ozoani and Nweke (Enugu), Nathaniel Uduma and Amadi Evaria (Ebonyi)edge pass Anthony Oparachukwu and Chinedu Echebina (Imo) (21-4, 21-6), Emeka Uzukwu and Paul Chigozirem (Abia) lost to Eya Chikamso and Nmesoma Tobechukwiu (14-21, 15-21).
For the female doubles which took place in the afternoon, saw Udeh Chioma and Winny (Ebonyi) dominated by Doyin Olusanya and Nkem Onyebuchi (11-21, 21-19, 19-21), Joy Uju and Adaure (Enugu) also came out tops, defeating Chioma Umeh and Blessing Amarachi (Anmbra) (21-14, 21-14).
In the Mixed doubles event, Bright Ozoani and Maureen Ozulo (Enugu) defeated Paul Chiagoziem and Chinedu (Abia) in an exciting match up that ended in favour of the Team Enugu (18-21, 21-13, 21-15), Eya Chikamso and Doyin Olusanya (Enugu) lost to Jovita Anikwe and Chioma Umeh (Anambra) (16-21, 14-21), Emeka Uzukwu and Queen Chibuzor (Abia) defeated Amadi Evauria and Eucharia Madu (Ebonyi) (21-6, 21-6)
