The newly constituted executives of the Enugu State Basketball Association, has been charged with the responsibility of discovering and nurturing the next generation of players, while mandating the Association to constantly organize grassroot and development programs across the state.
The government who emphasized the significance of early planning and preparation ahead of next year’s National Sports Festival to be hosted in the state, described the Association as enthusiastic, articulate and experienced.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu represented by the Director Coaching, Ephraim Ochonma gave the charge during the mini inauguration ceremony, held at the State Secretariat, Enugu, today.
According to him, the Ministry, is always willing and ready to partner with the various Association and the relevant stakeholders, in organizing grassroot and development programs, while acknowledging that the basketball is a force to be reckon with in the history of sports in state.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman of the Basketball Association, General Manager, Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, Barrister Gerald Asogwa represented by the Director Legal Duties, Barrister Chijoke Nnaji, assured that the new excos would work assiduously to deliver on its mandate.
On his part, Press and Southeast Representative, Osondu Ngwude, recalled an experience the state team underwent during a championship in Lagos, appealing to the Ministry for financial and moral supports in subsequent tournaments.
