The Enugu State Football Association, ENSFA, has described grassroot football development in the state, as commendable and worthy investment, saying that they will continually put out programs that will impact positively on the game.

The Association explained that developmental football programs are top priority on their agenda, just as they have been constantly interfacing with the Coaches and Managers on the latest best practices of the game.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the final of the 2025 edition of the Enugu State Grassroot Football Developers Tournament, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium yesterday, Chairman of ENSFA, Barrister Tony Ugwu praised the team’s participation as well as the overall organization of the tournament, expressing gratitude to every stakeholder and sponsor for their immense roles towards the success of the competition.

Also Speaking, Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu reaffirmed state government’s commitment and passion towards sports activities, while assuring that the Commission will not relent in throwing its weight in the upliftment of sports in the state.

Meanwhile, Denver FC (Old Park) who emerged victorious in this year’s tournament, by defeating Lionnaries FC (Onu Ato) by 2-0, received a whooping sum of 300,000 naira, trophy and medals, while Lionnaries FC got 150,000 and medals, just as third and fourth place teams, Young Stars FC (Iva Valley) and Emirate FC (Abakpa) were rewarded with 50,000 each.

Other recipients of awards include Amaigbo Emmanuel (Denver FC) the Most Valuable Player who got the sum of 15, 000 naira.

As a way of encouraging grassroot football and young players in the state, the founder of the Seyi Akinwunmi Football Foundation and a former football administrator in Lagos State, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, graciously granted a scholarship award of 450, 000 naira to two outstanding players, Udeh Chinedu (Lionnaires FC) and Etim Emmanuel (Denver FC).
