The newly inaugurated executives of the Enugu State Handball Association, ESHA, has been saddled with the responsibility of discovering and nurturing the next generation of players for the future, while describing the Association as enthusiastic, vibrant and goal getters.
The board was also tasked with putting up developmental and grassroot programs that will constantly involve schools across the state, as well as prepare a team that will give a good representation in the 2026 National Sports Festival that would be hosted in the state and other subsequent championships.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development’, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu represented by the Director of Coaching in the Ministry, Ephraim Ochonma, gave the charged during the inauguration ceremony of the Handball executives, held at the State Secretariat, Enugu, yesterday.
According to him, despite the enormous pressures and expectations from the state and the handball fraternity, he is optimistic that the board will deliver on its mandate, just as he congratulated the members for their new positions.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman of the ESHA, Emmanuel Asogwa, stated that the board members have expressed high hopes and belief in this project, calling for regular and concerted efforts from all the relevant stakeholders.
On his part, Coach and Secretary of the Association, Emeka Idoko, admitted that the task before the board is a daunting one but achievable, assuring that they will be working extensively and assiduously in producing quality teams especially in the Under-12 and Under-15 categories.
