The Enugu State House of Assembly has reiterated its commitment towards the development of sports, expressing confidence that the state has what it takes to produce Olympic and World Champions.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche C. Ugwu made this statement during the state finals of the 7th edition of the grass root and talent hunt boxing championship at the Post Primary School Management Board, PPSMB, Independence Layout yesterday.
In his address, the Speaker admitted that this year’s edition witnessed a remarkable improvement, as the participants expressed so much passion and enthusiasm, while stressing on the importance of sports.
On his part, Chairman of the PPSMB, Enugu State, Reverend Father Hilary Mgbodile, expressed special gratitude to the state government and everyone that played a part in the success of the program, adding that the turnout was massive.
The weeklong event which was sponsored by the Speaker in collaboration with PPSMB and Enugu State Boxing Association had over 200 students from the 17 local government areas of the State participating.
To this end, Nkanu East emerged overall winners in the competition with 9 medals and a trophy, closely followed by Isi Uzo and Oji River on 6 and 3 medals respectively while 5,000 naira and certificate of participation were also presented to the students.
