“This is a golden one point and very appreciated” the words of the former international and Head Coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club (Ibadan), Edit Agoye after his side came back from a two goals deficit to draw 2-2 against Rangers international Football Club (Enugu) yesterday in matchday 36 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the Awka City Stadium, Anambra.
The Ibadan based outfit who regained promotion to the elite division two season ago have been struggling in the current season, slightly placed above the drop zone with just 2 points and are on the 15th position on the league table.
Despite ending the first stanza of the current league on a high, rangers international have not been convincing particularly at away games and have lost three straight away games against Abia Warriors, Nasarrawa United and Kano Pillars respectively.
The host started on a brighter note, controlled and dominated the pace of the game and created more opportunities but lacked the composure and direction to put the ball behind the net as the first 45 mins ended in a stalemate.
On resumption of the second stanza, Shedrack Asiegbu put the host ahead in the 46th min as he rose highest in the 18 yard box to head home a cross from Eso Achibong. Chidiebere Nwobodo doubled the lead for the homeside in the 56 mins when he tapped home inside the penalty area from a Shedrack Asiegbu’s flick.
The Oluyole Warriors stunned their host in last quarter of the game. It was substitute Omodurokye Moses who got a brace as he reacted swiftly from a mix-up at the heart of rangers defence to slot the ball in the back of the net in the 73rd min.
However, with less than 2 mins to the end of regulation time, the bulky striker again finished off a through pass from his teammate, Chidera Ezeh from the midfield.
Speaking in a post match analysis, Head Coach 3SC, Edit Agoye was indeed satisfied with the outcome of the game, promising that they will definitely improve on their finishing in the next game against Rivers United in Ibadan.
Also reacting to the outcome of the game, Skipper of 3SC, Isiaka Mutiu hinted that the pep talk with general manager spur them into action, acknowledging that Rangers is a good and formidable side.
With this result Enugu Rangers are still placed 4th on table with 53 points after 36 games and would be engaging Gombe United in their next fixture while 3SC who are still within the relegation zone are on 43 points would host “the pride of rivers” in Ibadan next weekend
