The Enugu State Football Assembly has officially approved the conduct of election into the various positions of both the local and state football association scheduled for next year, while urging the prospective candidates to play by the rules in ensuring a credible, transparent, peaceful and successful electoral process.
The Assembly appreciated the state government, individuals and organisations for their immense contributions in the advancement of football by the availability of sports facilities at the grassroot and community level, hinting that such facilities would provide opportunities for the discovery and nurturing of raw talents.
In a communique issued at the end of the State’s football annual congress, signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Drafting Committee, Professor Chidi Ugwu and Foster Chime, at the weekend, the Congress unanimously endorsed the ambition of the Chairman of the Enugu State Football Association, Dr. Anthony Okechi Ugwu, Esq, contesting in the forthcoming membership election of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation,
In addition to his demonstrated impacts in football development in the state and the country, as well as his enviable stature and qualifications to serve creditably on the NFF Executive Committee, the Assembly also noted the state’s historic and strategic role in football development.
The Congress also made a passionate appeal to state government not to overlook the provision of a befitting secretariat for the ESFA as the present administration continues the great work of attracting international sporting activities to the state.
It concluded by expressing its unalloyed support for the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), ably led by Ibrahim Musa Gusau, pledging its support for the Federation as it seeks to do greater things going into the future..
